Data Management

News

Termination of the project
Damocles ended one year ago. The data management portal will remain available as long as the hardware works. The data hosted by the system will be available through other systems hosted by METNO. In particular through the EU FP7 project ACCESS data management system for climate data that also will be hosted by METNO and that is in the process of being set up and through the WMO Information System Data Collection and Production Centre for Arctic Data hosted by METNO. Web pages for ACCESS will be available by autumn, the Arctic Data Centre is available at http://arcticdata.met.no/ but is still under development. Concerning datasets with restrictions, most of the owners has released these restrictions and datasets will be made freely available as soon as datasets have been properly traversed and checked.
Software and system upgrade - April 2011
The data management system (METAMOD) supporting Damocles will be upgraded in the coming 2 weeks. During this period, the system will not be available. Normal operation is expected in week 19. The new version of the software is 2.8.
Software update - November 2010
The data management system (METAMOD) supporting Damocles have been upgraded to version 2.6.
Dataset status - September 2010
In the beginning of the project an electronic questionnaire was circulated among the project partners, asking them to describe datasets they planned to collect during the project. These responses were, and still are, included in the metadatabase. These planned datasets will be excluded from the metadatabase this autumn, but have been used in a mapping between planned and actual datasets. This mapping is still in progress, but the preliminary results are available here.

Background

The Data management and distribution system provides the interface between the data and the users of data within DAMOCLES. The basic philosophy of the Data management and distribution system of Damocles is to establish a low cost system where the database contain generic file formats available through software tools generated by the data management group. Conversion of the various file formats in use for specific purposes to the generic file format (netCDF) is being done by the data providers as they are familiar with their own file format.
